Kate Wertheimer is a writer, editor, storyteller and adventurer based in Los Angeles, California. She was Global Travel Editor for Time Out Group from July 2017 to January 2019, and was honored with a Top Women in Media Award from Folio in June 2017 for her work with Time Out over the past six years. Kate has written for a number of publications including Gothamist, Oyster.com, Vegetarian Times, Glamour, Redbook, Seventeen, Total Beauty, Natural Health, Fit Pregnancy and Merry Jane. She also does freelance social media photography and branding for local businesses like Forma Restaurant. She graduated from Northwestern University in 2008 with a BA in Communication Studies and Psychology, and attended the Columbia Publishing Course the following summer.
Her (formal) education was sandwiched between summers living on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques, where she worked as a kayak and snorkel guide and volunteered with US Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Natural Resources. She's spent the last ten years researching, planning and taking trips to anywhere she can find cheap airfare or a campsite. After moving from New York City to Los Angeles in 2010, she made peace with owning a car only after realizing the road trip possibilities: Big Sur's oceanside cliffs, Death Valley's hidden hot spring oases and the lakes and valleys of the Eastern Sierras all within a half-day's drive. Kate is equally passionate about compelling storytelling and firsthand adventuring; when she's not in front of a computer, she's behind the wheel or in a window seat (who picks the aisle? no views!) seeking out her next great trip.
